Woody Allen's Lessons

I was watching American Masters the other day on PBS when they had a special on Woody Allen. I found it very interesting that when he began pursuing his passion & talents for comedy he had a VERY hard time with performing. He had a talent/passion for writing jokes, but when it came time to get on the stage and perform them he hated it! He wasn't very good at it either. Due to the urgings and advice of his friends at the time he stuck with it and did what he hated to do...perform his comedy. They told him if he could try and learn how to perform that would really benefit him in his endeavors to pursue his passion. They were right. He stuck through it...year after year...getting better slowly, but still not enjoying it. Doing what he did lead to his career flourishing and many "breaks" coming as a result...and we all know where is career is now!

Now I'm not a fan of Woody Allen humor myself...but what I LOVE from this example is that as creative people (or anyone for that matter!) that wants to pursue their passion & talents in life it will mean doing things you don't like, enjoy, or are good at, in order to succeed. I'm not talking about doing anything immoral or illegal, but doing things you just don't have interest in, or like doing, but that need to be done in order for you to succeed in your creative endeavors & pursuing your passion. As my husband says...it's learning "to do what you gotta do".

If we stick with it & do those parts of the "job" or parts of the "creative journey" that we really don't like it will benefit us in so many ways. It will get us to that place we want to go & live into those creative and passionate areas of our being that were created in us for a reason. It's who we were meant to be and what we were meant to do. It doesn't mean it will always be easy "getting there"...but it will be worth the hard work, sacrifice, & plodding through areas we dislike and pushing ourselves to do them.

Wishing you the ability to push yourself & encourage yourself, even when you don't feel like it, to move forward & live into the person & life you were meant to live!

All the best to you! Can't wait to see what comes to you as a result!
